The Shop

While the shop stands out for its eye-catching neon sign with its clear lettering saying “Figurino D’Ouro,” the company name is actually J. Júlio Pinto, Lda., which was founded in 1961. The shop is still an address that is sought out by all interested in buying classic menswear. It used to have a tailoring workshop, where, amongst other items, it made business uniforms. It still carries out amendments and minor adjustments to ready-to-wear garments. This work is performed by Serafim Alfredo, a tailor who was been working in the shop since 1972.

The shop’s polo shirts, pullovers, jackets, ties and belts, to name just a few of the times it sells, are from a wide range of national and foreign brands (including shirts from Pierre Cardin). The shop used to occupy the ground floor and basement levels, but the basement is now used for storage only. On the ground floor the shop’s interior still reflects the original 1960s design, including the furnishing, paving in white Portuguese limestone and black marble, and the ceilings with recessed lighting.
