The Shop
This medicinal herb shop in Rua da Madalena opened in 1978 and it has remained essentially as it was. The company had already existed, since 1950, and there used to be a second shop in the same street, but it has since closed down. The Ervanária Rosil has infusions for everything – whether they sold as loose leaves or in ready-made mixtures. Mixture no. 6, for example, known as the “miracle tea”, is one of the most popular. Also sought after are the slimming products, balsams, remedies for stomach and liver ailments and calming infusions. More tranquillity, less ulcers: just what the doctor ordered for a stressed-out society.
Relationships of trust are built up over the years, the shop having a great many loyal customers, many of whom order their goods by post. These relationships are strengthened by the long life of the shop and the long service of its staff members, such as the brothers Manuel and Abel. Manuel Rodrigues worked there for 51 years; Abel Rodrigues still works there and has done for 30 years.
