The Shop

Until recently known as Casa de Cafés Laço, after the founder’s surname, this shop changed its name to Solposto in 2015 when the business changed hands. It was the first coffee trader in Benfica and is now the only one in the area. The business’s known date of origin is 1949, the year Pureza Solposto joined the company she would later buy from the founder. However, the business is older than that.

Thanks to its modest size, it is regarded something of a sweet box amongst shops: featuring coffee roasts with coffees from demarcated regions, dried fruits, sweets, liqueurs, cornbread, medicinal plants, coffee machines, teas from all over the world and biscuits. The shop has around 1,300 different products that can take pride of place in the pantry of each of its customers. Bulk sales, a practice that had fallen into disuse, has now returned thanks to growing concerns around sustainability in consumer habits and, in this particular case, the excessive use of plastics. The shopper can buy coffee and other delicacies without filling the domestic rubbish bags with unwanted packaging.
