Manuel Alves Frazão opened this shop in 1933 and he remains present in the form of a framed photograph and dedication plaque which occupy a prominent place in the shop. He had an excellent relationship with his employees, and when he died Mr. Frazão left the business to them. It is they who now manage the business, in the form of a clearly defined partnership: working in the shop for 10 years gives anyone the right to become a partner. Which means that Casa Frazão is currently managed by 22 people who once worked there or still do, giving it a particular dynamics and distinguishing it from most of the other traditional stores in Lisbon, which are normally passed on from generation to generation within the same family.
Casa Frazão is a reference for all those interested in quality fabrics; its strength is the great variety it offers: fabrics for men and women, summer and winter, from Portugal and abroad, in different materials, patterns, textures colours. There is a great demand for fabrics for festive and wedding garments – laces, silks and all kinds of finer fabrics. In winter, fabrics for long overcoats and some accessories for the cold weather are the most sought after. The shop also sells scarves, hats, stockings and socks and ties. Thanks to the wide range of colours, particularly summer colours, even just a visit to the shop can be a gift. The catalogue of fabrics is readily available for consultation throughout the shop – a feast for the eyes and the senses.
